Michelangelo Stanchi was born into a highly regarded jeweler family in Valenza, a town in Italy renowned for its jewelry. His grandfather on his mother's side, Oreste Staurino, imported fine gems from around the world. His father's father, Francesco Stanchi, was a gold jewelry designer whose reputation in Valenza was legendary. As a child, Michelangelo grew up with stories from the village about Francesco's beautiful creations. The elderly women would show him their wedding sets made when they were young brides.
