Michelangelo Stanchi was born into a highly regarded jeweler family in Valenza, a town in Italy renowned for its jewelry. His grandfather on his mother's side, Oreste Staurino, imported fine gems from around the world. His father's father, Francesco Stanchi, was a gold jewelry designer whose reputation in Valenza was legendary.

As a child, Michelangelo grew up with stories from the village about Francesco's beautiful creations. The elderly women would show him their wedding sets made when they were young brides. Michelangelo moved Santa Fe in 1995. Like Valenza, it is a town known for its rich jewelry tradition. Yet even among the finest jewelers in Santa Fe, Michelangelo is exceptional.
