Wedding & Engagement Rings by Michelangelo
Michelangelo Stanchi was born into a highly regarded jeweler family in Valenza, a town in Italy renowned for its jewelry. His
grandfather on his mother's side, Oreste Staurino, imported fine gems from around the world. His father's father, Francesco Stanchi, was a gold
jewelry designer whose reputation in Valenza was legendary.
As a child, Michelangelo grew up with stories from the village about Francesco's beautiful creations. The elderly women would show him their wedding
sets made when they were young brides. Jewelry came to represent enduring beauty over the passage of generations. He was also inspired by his
uncle, Gian Luigi, who was a masterfully skilled gold smith. He began patiently observing how Gian employed technique with hand tools that had been
handed down through the family. Over time, he became passionately interested in the mysterious process of creating something extraordinary with
gold, platinum and gems.
When Michelangelo became a teenager, Gian agreed to teach him the secrets of their family's craft. He apprenticed, learning the
skills of generations, beside his uncle's bench. At the same time, his father, Pier Paolo, passed on his knowledge of gemology.
Michelangelo moved Santa Fe in 1995. Like Valenza, it is a town known for its rich jewelry tradition. Yet even among the finest jewelers
in Santa Fe, Michelangelo is exceptional. His designs incorporate contemporary flair into old world techniques. Like his grandfather and
uncle, Michelangelo is revered for his fine gold and exceptional stone setting, as well as his trademark use of fancy colored diamonds.
These days, any "custom jeweler" can, with a computer and dye cutting machinery, generate designs mechanically. Yet the feel of such a
ring is entirely different from one that is hand made by a master. Michelangelo represents an old world style that is increasingly rare.
His pieces are infused with soul. They hearken back to a time when those in love went to an artist to create, with his own hands, a ring
which could express deepest sentiment. The detail and craftsmanship in his rings, each made to order, is an exquisite heirloom that
will be passed down over generations.
Michelangelo is married and has a young daughter and a new born son. He is generous with his knowledge, teaching jewelry at one of our
local colleges. ArtisanWeddingRings.com is proud to be the exclusive on-line retail site for Michelangelo's exquisite work.
